Athens Regional Health System Volunteer Committee Descriptions
Admissions
- Handle ticket sales at the gate during tournament week
- Assist with checking for proper admission credentials
- Administer Will Call for tickets
- Distribute Pairing Sheets
- Provide general information to all spectators as they arrive to the golf course
Thursday - Sunday
Beverage Distribution
- Distribute product and ice throughout the grounds as needed
- Locations for distribution are Volunteer Headquarters, Player Dining, Player Locker Room, Media Center, PGA Tour Offices,
Driving Range, Teeing Grounds, Concessions, Skyboxes and Hospitality Tents
Monday – Sunday
Bunker Raking
- Work with the Assistant Superintendent preparing bunkers before play each day
- This is a physical position
Saturday (pre-tournament) – Sunday (final round)
Childcare
- Provide on-site childcare for Nationwide Tour Players and Families during tournament week.
Wednesday – Sunday
Divot Filling and Other Minor Course Maintenance Procedures
- Fill divots on tees, fairways and visible rough areas by pouring sand in divots and smoothing out with foot or level lawn tools
Saturday (pre-tournament) – Sunday (final round)
Driving Range
- Provide Gallery Control
- Regulate access to and from the tee for players, caddies and tournament officials
- Label & distribute Caddie bibs before and after play
- Set up golf balls and nameplates for players
- Pick up golf balls as needed
- This is an active volunteer position
Monday – Sunday
Hospitality – Security
- Control access in and out of the Clubhouse, Player Dining and Media Center
- Check credentials at access points
Monday – Sunday
Hospitality – Skyboxes & Tents
- Control access in and out of the skyboxes and hospitality tents
- Provide assistance and information to tournament guests
Thursday – Sunday
Hospitality – Volunteer Headquarters
- Control Cart and Radio distribution based on provided list
- Manage distribution of on-course food and beverage for volunteers
- Oversee general operations of the Volunteer Headquarters including food & beverage set-up, trash, shift changes, and Volunteer “no-shows”
- Set up and breakdown Volunteer Headquarters each day for cart storage
- Fill in to other volunteer positions as needed
Monday – Sunday
Locker Room
- Welcome players and provide assistance with general information like a hotel concierge (shoe shine, chiropractic, dry cleaning, massage, directions, recommendations on restaurants, etc.)
- Control access in and out of the locker room
- Assist manufacturer reps with distribution of player equipment
- Keep locker room clean and neat
Monday – Sunday
Marshals
- Provide assistance to players by spotting golf balls, moving ropes and controlling gallery
- Control gallery by managing crosswalks, keeping spectators quiet and behind the ropes
- This position requires basic knowledge of golf and is an on-course active position
Thursday – Sunday
Office Administration
- Assist in the on-site tournament office before & during the tournament
- Duties include, but not limited to answering phones, ticket administration and providing information for players, caddies, volunteers and spectators
- Distribute Volunteer Uniforms and packages
Advance Week & Tournament Week
Pro-Am Tournament
- Provide assistance loading bags, registering Amateurs, shuttling guests and distributing player packages
Monday and Wednesday
Scoring Central
- Input player’s scores via computer from the palm pilots to the Live Scoring Web site
- Troubleshoot palm pilots for Walking Scorers
- Basic computer knowledge required
Thursday – Sunday
Scoring Central – Scorecard Runners
- Deliver scorecards from the official scoring tents to the PGA Tour Truck and Score Board
- Make copies of scorecards
Thursday – Sunday
Standard Bearers
- Accompany each group of players carrying a sign inside the ropes during play displaying their scores
- Must be able to carry the standard (6-7 lbs.) for 18 holes and have a basic knowledge of golf.
Thursday – Sunday
Transportation
- Provide transportation via vans and golf carts for Caddies, Volunteers and VIP’s from their respective parking lots
- Provide shuttles for marshal on and off the golf course
- Implement Evacuation Plan of golf course as necessary
Monday – Sunday
Walking Scorers
- Record scores and statistics of player on a palm pilot during the competitive rounds
- Walk with one group for all 18 holes
- Use radio to call for rules officials
- Golf knowledge required and must be able to walk 18 holes
